"The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) has been around for 35 years, a year ago we opened our new clinic, the Victoria Sexual Assault Clinic. The clinic is a new extension of VSAC. Prior to opening that clinic, we were primarily offering counselling, justice support and prevention programs. And now with our new clinic that we developed with our community partners we can now offer a 24hr emergency response to provide medical/forensic care, options for reporting as well as crisis support. The clinic shifts vital services from the hospital and police stations to one confidential, accessible and welcoming facility where recent survivors of sexual assault can receive support, medical and forensic care, and options for reporting (if they choose). The goal of the clinic was to break down barriers for survivors to access support. Since opening the clinic, the demand for these services has increased by 80%. "
I have worked closely and tried to support the VSAC since they opened their clinic last year and I love continuing to see their impact on the community and their lives of the people they continue to help every day.
